Hooray, another beach town! Sihanoukville is Cambodias premier seaside resort. There are many beaches here but for our first night here to choose to stay based on our accomodation choice at Serenpidity Beach. The name sounds delightful doesn't it, but im afraid its name doesnt do the beach justice. it has been bombarded with tourist cafes, all offering the same deals, all with sun loungers and chairs on the beach and all with over pushy staff literally pleading for you to come in. The reason we chose to come to this beach was for the accomodation. We stayed at Monkey Republic, this monkey brand was started by 4 lads from the UK in 2005 who have now set up camp here. We stayed in a lovely beach hut with turqouise stained wooden walls and bamboo furnishings. Theres not much going on here apart from relax and sit in cafes so we spend the day doing that. The reason for our visit to Sihanoukville comes tomorrow when we island hop to Koh Rong and stay at Monkey Island (another part of the monkey chain). So we spend the day sipping 50 cents beer and for me strawberry shakes and be constantly pestered by young children trying desperatley to sell us bracelets that we really don't want.
Whilst walking back from the beach all the bars are beginning to set up for the evening where the beach turns into a bbq fest. Each bar offers a selection of fresh seafood bbq'd for $3. Whilst walking back to our hut for a quick freshen up and change we are appraoched by a bar owner from Yorkshire, he convinces us that he does a really good bbq and the added free coleslaw and garlic bread make it a done deal. We have a really good evening sitting on the beach tucking into freshly caught shrimp, barracuda fish and sipping on Pineapple Daquiris.
