Greatings from Bangkok!
Leaving Hong Kong was a very sad day. Having now left all my friends from the China tour I was back on my own. I suddenly started feeling rather nervous and scared again. It was a good day to leave though as the weather was s*** and just walking down the road I got absolutley soaking wet. I got to the airport soaked, depressed and wanting a lasagne. This is all I have wanted for 2 weeks now! I have found a few places that do them but I just know they will be pre-made crap and not as good as a home made one. I don't want to be disapointed so haven't ordered one (yet).
My flight was only 2 hours long and I was rather pissed off as I was watching a film and we started landing right at the end so I missed the ending!!! This I thought was rather inconsiderate of Thai Airways but what could I do. I did debate informing the pilot he needed to do a de-tour so that I could watch the ending, I didn't think he would listen though.
My left ear wouldn't pop on the way down so I exited the plane unable to hear anything and feeling really sketched out. I didn't like it. I just wanted to cry and cuddle up to my pillow back at home. I was in no mood to get a taxi but it was 8.30pm and the only way I was ever going to get to my hostel. I got into a taxi and showed the guy a piece of paper with the address written in Thai. The guy was holding the paper at arms length and squinting to read it. Great, a taxi driver who can't even see properly. This was going to be very interesting. Then I find there are no seatbelts at back, he just tells me not to worry! Haha, I am going 100kmph down a road in a taxi with a guy who can hardly see. This is just brilliant. All in the travel experience I suppose! He tried to practice his English with me but I was really struggling to hear him so I shut my eyes and pretended to be asleep.
We reached the hostel and I was grateful to be alive still. The guy who checked me in was impossible to hear with my dodgey ear and I must have seemed a little wierd and confussed. More than usual that is! I couldn't even blame jet lag seeing as I had only come from Hong Kong.
I went straight to my room, dumped my bag and crawled into bed. I woke in the morning to find the room full with other girls. I got chatting to one of them who I then ended up spending the day with. We went on the canal, to the reclining buddah and for a wonder down Khaosan Road. That evening we had a beer at the bar in the hostel. All in all, a good day was had.
Woke up this morning and got a taxi to the hotel where the next tour starts. The traffic was a nightmare and it took an hour to get there. The driver was grumpy, didn't put the air con on and my bag was sticking to the leather seats. I have decided that I hate Bangkok and cannot wait till tomorrow when we leave for Cambodia.
I am about to go to the Grand Palace which should be good. Tried going yesterday but wasn't wearing appropriate clothing so today I have packed my scarf and sarong to put on.
Will catch up again in a few days.
I miss you all back home and hope your all well and not all suffering from the swine flu!
Take care
