Today we got up about 8 and headed to the beer hall. We got a seat at Paulaner hall and ordered a 1 litte beer. I don't even like beer and I am drinking a bucket of it at 9.00 in the morning. No music has started yet but every time someone sculls a drink everyone claps and cheers and they stand up while they are doing it. The music starts and we all start singing these German songs. We have no idea what we are singing. First of all we were sitting next to some mexicans who are studying in France but then they move on and these German guys from Nurenberg sit with us. They are very wild but friendly we meet lots of their friends then the arm wrestling starts. Danos goes up against a big Turk who eventually beats him but in Danos own words "he earnt their respect for the effort he put in". Then some French guys from another table came along and started the arm wrestling. A young skinny Swiss guy also gets involved. The women serving the drinks can carry so many of these steins, I think the biggest amount we saw was 10. They work very quickly and also take food orders, we had 1/2 chicken and fries and German sausage and sauerkraut. It is unbelievable the amount of people from different countries, different ages lots dressed up. Anyway we finally leave there but when we get outside you can't move, we can't get into any other tents because they all have huge waiting lines. We stroll around buy some t shirts then walk down the street- there are people everywhere and police and ambulances - sirens going off constantly. Anyway Liz and I stop at a shop and buy a traditional outfit and the boys had spied leiderhausen at a guy on the street previously so we go back there and they make their purchase. Of course they wear them all the way home. Scott can't stop looking at his own reflection in all the windows because he thinks he looks so good. He says he is not taking it off for the rest of the trip ( he has had 3 liters of beer). We have subway on the way home about 2 euros and go back to our room. Danos and Scott decide to go and look for somewhere for us to stay after our bus trip. Of course this takes about 2 hrs and they are still in their leiderhausen. They come back very pleased with themselves having found some hostel rooms but the best thing is it had 2 bars one on the roof and of course the bar is where they had been for the previous 2 hrs. They had met all these great people the room sounded like a 5 star hotel and cheap! Needless to say we are not staying there. We have an early night after a very big day. Gerard comes over for a visit, don't know if I mentioned we have 2 rooms Williamsons & Munros in 1 and Scotts and Baileys in the other. We arrived before the others at Oktoberfest site so they ended up in a different tent. Sounds like they had the same experience but they drank about 7 litres each.
