I'm still struggling to work out which day of the week it is, let alone what day of the month it is...I cant believe I've been here over 2 weeks already!
Whilst in Dumaguete, I stayed at the very popular Harold's Mansion. It was a great place to meet other travellers...and finally get some washing done!!
I'd barely arrived at the place, when Harold announced the jeep was leaving for the 'glorious' 30m Casaroro Falls in the next 5 mins...it had been raining for 5 days in a row, so it seemed like good idea!! I went with a group from Slovenia. Unfortunately the road was cut off at the river crossing because of a landslide from all the rain. Last December 17th when the typhoon hit the area several houses were destroyed, aswell as the river crossing. That's why they have several landslides + there was an earthquake on the island a couple of weeks ago...never a dull moment!!!!
We left the jeep and walked across the river. Meantime the locals were all mucking in to make some sort of crossing with mud and stones!! It was very hot and sweaty 2hr treck, mostly up hill to the waterfalls. Once there, we had 280 giant steps down to the falls....sooo disappointed, because of the landslide the was hardly anything to see :( Back up the steps and over to the 374 steps up to see the views over the island...by this point only 3 of us were game!! We still had to walk all the way back to the river yet!!
Harold managed to eventually get his jeep over the river and rescue us half way down. He even had a plate of fresh papaya waiting for us! He didn't even charge us for the trip in the end :)
During the next 2 days in Dumaguete Harold organised a day diving around Apo island, and a day diving with Whale sharks and around Sumilon Island. The weather was fantastic, and the diving was great!!
Dumaguete is pretty noisy and I hardly slept, so 3 days was enough. I hopped on a boat to Siquijor Island. It's only an hour away, but it really is paradise!!!
I've been here at Kiwi's resort, which is located around Sandugan beach for 3 days now, chilling on the beach, lazing around in hammocks... basically doing very little!! It was a pure fluke that I picked one of the beat areas to stay. The place has been fully booked for days, so I was very lucky!! I'm staying in a really cute cottage with views of the beach. It's so layed back here, hardly any tourists. Everyone is in bed by 9.30pm ;) Yesterday I went round the Island with one of the guys staying here. Most people hire moterbikes, except accident-prone me!! I had a practice & went flying off...a few cuts and bruises :( I'll stick to being a passenger from now on!! There are no shops or banks here..you have to go back to the nearest town...but it's very limited. You don't need anything though!!
So this morning as usual I woke at 4.30am :/ took a long walk on the beach & watched the sunrise...how am I going to top this island when I eventually move on?!?!
Ok, ok, so several hrs later..gotta get butt into gear with my hazy plans..time to stop being lazy!! Being picked up at 4.30am in bout 7hrs time, for my shleck by boat to back to Cebu city to stock up on decent toiletries etc! Expectin a 6hr atleast journey!! Really need to sort out visa extension in Cebu before i forget, and get into trouble :/ Its only 9pm..every1's gone 2 bed!! The water has been cut off all day too, so showering with a bucket of cold water... quite refreshing!!
