There was sea, there was surf, there was even sand, but when we first arrived there was a definate lack of sun! Monday and Tuesday were horrible, cloudy and we even had rain, so for the first time in months I found myself wondering what to do. In Melbourne I had always been working and in the 7 days I was in Sydney I had been sightseeing. Now I was in a seaside town that had little going for it apart from a beach that was soggy and plenty of cafes I couldn't afford to go to. Luckily James, Rachel, Andrew and the two Chris' were also there so we all sat around haveing a good chat and laugh. We had to say good bye to the two Chris' on Wednesday when they headed off to NewZealand. Luckily for us the sun decided to come out that day and continued to shine for the following three aswell.
When the sun comes out in Bondi, so does everyone alse and they all congregate on a mile stretch of beautiful sand. There are dozens of surfers in the water waiting for the right wave to come along and they are there all day, from when the sun comes up to when the sun goes down. Its great to watch them, but for some reason surfing doesn't exactly appeal to me. Insteas I hired a body board and surfed the waves on my tummy, some of which pushed me 50m right onto the sand. Running along the shoreline were lifeguards in their little red and yellow caps telling people off for swimming outside of the designated red and yellow flags. There are hundereds of people out in their bikinis trying to soak up some sun, including myself whom is getting a lot browner. I am looking foreward to getting home and being able to show it off! I somehow doubt that anyone at home will be looking quite as brown especially when they have been living through snow in April! There are blenty of beaches lining the entire coast and I took a lovely walk along a number of them all the way down to Coogee Beach (pronounced cooji). Some were tiny little inlets with a small beach area, all manned with a lifeguard and all with the sea swimming full of surfers. To make sure no sharks attacked there is a huge shark net of shore and a shark watch helicopter flying overhead. However, even with these precautions a young surfer was attacked and killed further up the coast last week. The sea is never as safe as it looks.
Since leaving Melbourne I have become a slightly better cook. I am now cooking for myself everynight and I have kind of turned into a vegetarian. Its healthy, vegetables are cheaper than meat and there is very little chance of obtaining food poisoning if I underccook them slightly. So all is good. I am currently in a travel agents in Sydney having just lump booked all the things I want to do in my time in Australia and charged them all to Mum's credit card - hehe. But I have lots to look foreward to - sailing, camping, 4x4 wheel driving across sandunes, snorkeling with turtles, diving on the barrier reef, sky diving, canoeing, hiking and so much more. I am heading off tomorrow up to Coff's Harbour, Rachel is satying with James and Andrew and I am getting ready for my lone adventure up the east coast. I can't wait! xx
