Of course my flight was delayed, but surprisingly they gave me a business class upgrade - what a way to start the weekend. It wasn't first class (they had foot rests) but it was quieter, a more comfortable seat, and free - so no complaining here. The flight was about 3 hours and good. The meal was half recognizable - meaning that I recognized half of it as being rice, the other half… still not sure.I sat back and watched a 60 cents China DVD and enjoyed thinking about what my plans were for the weekend. One thing that I have noticed not only in China, but Brazil, and other countries as well is that the airlines are not afraid to advertise on the planes.Whether it be on the tray tables, headrest liners, or in this specific case, a TV that had nothing but advertisements for 3 hours.Which is smart in my opinion. If you are bored on a flight, and there is a TV in front of you, there is a good chance you will watch it, especially if the volume of the TV does not require headsets.
Despite Sanya being labeled as "China's Hawaii" with the tropical atmosphere and the cleanest air in China, the neon lights were everywhere and I could not tell which of the lights were for the runway…. Just hoped the pilot knew.
I did get a glimpse of the giant Buddha on landing though. It reminds me of the Chinese version of the Statue of Liberty. It's on its own little type of island, lit up by spotlights and blinking lights telling the airplanes not to hit it.
The main thing I hate the most is that when you come out of the airport, I am immediately recognized as not being Chinese (can you imagine??).I am always swarmed and people are yelling at me at the top of their lungs.I just am too laid back for that ridiculousness.
At this very moment, I cannot compare this to my 2 weeks in Hawaii.Sure they have palm trees, but never had to deal with this humidity.Talk about flashbacks from Singapore!
So I finally get to the hotel and it's like I am in some kinda of resort oasis. The doorman greeted me in some kind of safari outfit, and while I was checking in, I was given a cold towel, a cold drink, and a necklace of shells and wooden stars. I can hear the waves from the lobby. They upgraded my room to a room that faces the ocean instead of the mountains.I get escorted to my room and am about ready to fall asleep until I actually walk into the room.It was definitely one of the nicest Marriotts I have been to - it reminds me a lot of the Marriott in Salvador, Brazil when I went to go see the sea turtles
