So I've had a good sleep now so I'll try get up to date!
After Sydney we got on our first Greyhound bus up to Byron bay. Unfortunately that day it rained pretty much all day so we couldn't go to the beach, which is the main attraction of Byron Bay. We did have a wander round though and it's a really nice place. That night we went out to the infamous Cheeky Monkeys for a cheap meal (5$ for food and a drink!) and a night out. The next day we were booked on to a day tour to a town called Nimbin. It's an old hippy town filled with aging hippies, odd shops and cafes and lots of people trying to sell weed! On the trip we also got to go for a BBQ near the local damn, but we failed to find it on our walk as we got lost. We were also supposed to get to swim in a natural plunge pool under a waterfall but again it was raining and pretty cold so we just looked at it. It was very pretty though!
The next day we managed to get an hour on the beach without it raining before getting on our next bus up to a place called Surfers Paradise. Surfers is a massive town/city filled with high rise posh apartments and lots of really tacky tourist traps. It's not really my thing but the beach was beautiful and went on for ever! It was still too chilly to go in the sea (and really really windy) but we spent an afternoon on the beach which was nice! We also went for a little walk by the river to look at all the expensive houses and boats!
The next day we got a bus up to Brisbane where we only stayed the night before moving on to Noosa, which is where I am now. Paul's dad's old friends offered to let us stay at theirs while we are here, which was so nice of them. Noosa is a lovely place. It's made up of lots of little areas separated by rivers and canals. The beaches here are gorgeous! Yesterday we went for a walk along the beach and into the National Park here. We saw two wild koalas in the trees and lots of little lizards. In the afternoon Richard (Paul's dad's friend) took us surfing. The water was pretty chilly to start with but you soon warmed up. Paul of course got it a lot quicker than me, but he was on the easy board to start with so that's my excuse! I managed to stand up a couple of times, if only for about 10/20m or so. But since we were only in the water for a short time I was happy. It's very hard though!
Today we're off to Hervey Bay where we stay the night before going to Fraser Island on a two day self drive 4x4 camping tour. You get put with people into groups to drive around and at night the cars meet up to camp so it should be fun. Hopefully it won't be too cold or rain too much!
