Farewell Slovakia and Hello Austria. Disembarked the ship this morning and said farewell to the wonderful crew that have looked after us so well. We are now on buses until the end of our trip. Checked into our hotel - Hotel Regina - and we have this amazing attic room overlooking the city. The whole hotel is really quaint and like we are staying in a living museum. Whilst unpacking we heard a commotion outside and then saw a massive street demonstration in support of Kurdistan. All very peaceful but a strong police presence.
Yet again this is a fleeting visit but as I have been here before it is a trip down memory lane for me. We spent the day and evening walking around the city which was much better than sitting on a coach. Unfortunately we did not have earphones and could not hear what our guide was saying so I just admired the views
A group of us went to dinner at this restaurant in the back streets although none of us can speak the language. Fortunately the son of the owner could speak a little English so between him and our sign language we got a fantastic meal.
Vienna's cityscape is characterised by an abundance of baroque buildings created mostly under the rule of Empress Maria Theresa and Emperor Franz Joseph who was largely responsible for the monumental architecture round the Ringstraße and Museum Quartier.
