Estamos en Madrid. ¡Hace Calor!
I was reminded why the Spanish like a siesta over the two days we were in Madrid and why I fell into the pattern of having siestas when travelling through Spain the first time.... it´s outrageously hot! After walking around all morning the last thing you feel like doing is walking around all afternoon.... but we did!
The day started with a little administration before we headed off to Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, the home of Real Madrid! Now normally I would say this is not my kind of thing, but I surprisingly enjoyed the tour through the stadium and the museum. They really have been the greatest football team over the 20th Century (officially awarded by FIFA). We have some great photos of us in the players seats and dressing rooms, but I can´t upload them at the moment as there´s no USB port. I will try later.
I think that it helps to have money if you want to be the greatest club over a century and boy are they good at milking it from you! The shop at the end was amazing.... you can pretty much buy anything with Real Madrid on it. From baby clothes and play equipment to calculators to coasters to connect four. You name it they´ve put Real Madrid on it!
After lunch we headed over to the palace gardens for a stroll. It was very quiet.... probably because most people were having a siesta unlike the crazy Australian tourists! It was lovely to walk around the gardens and sit in the shade watching the peacocks pecking the grass.
One thing we would definitely recommend is that if you´re staying in Madrid, get a hostel or hotel with air conditioning. After two nights with no fan cause those on the top bunks were in a better position to hog them, I´m incredibly tired! Reminds me of my Brisbane days when I used to peel my sticky self off the bed in the morning! Our bodies are acclimatised to London!
I hope everyone enjoyed the photos of our little trip into the mirror maze in Prague. We certainly had fun making them. There were lots of other lunatics in there making funny faces and taking snaps. We felt at home!
We didn´t do much else in Prague after we got back from the Tatra Mountains except wander around the city again enjoying the sights. I have to say that Prague is definitely one of my favourite European cities!
