On your bike....
I´m sure Mendoza is a lovely place, but unfortunately our time there was tainted by some bad experiences (which I won´t go into). We did have a lovely day cycling around the wine region at Maipu tasting a few wines. Our favourite winery was Tempus Alba which had a fantastic back terrace for wine tasting and food in the sunshine. Unfortunately they don´t export to Australia but I´m not too concerned since they did tell me this was because the competition was too tough in Australia (gotta love Australian wine!).
If you are going to cycle in Maipu, make sure you just hire the bikes. There´s no need to buy into any lunch packages as there are plenty of great places to stop on route for a bite to eat (at much better value). Don´t bother with a transfer either as the local bus is really cheap and very regular.
Mendoza itself is a nice town with wide leafy streets and a brilliant park. The town was rebuilt this way rather pesimistically after an earthquake in the 1800s. The citizens predicted another quake and thus made the streets very wide for the rubble to fall into. Its a nice town, but there are nicer places in Argentina....
