I never thought I'd devote an entire blog entry to a restaurant, but the food was simply devine....
La Cabrera is a bit of an institution in Buenos Aires. Its the kind of place that delivers quality food, but makes you feel welcome, like you're coming home rather than some posh restaurant. The decor is a little kooky or off the wall... but fun! We were surprised to be seated next to a framed copy of the front cover of the Australian Women's Weekly BBQ Cookbook. Fitting, given that we were in one of the best steak restaurants in Argentina.
Even though our friends Dave and Jane had been here before us and we had been duely warned, we couldn't help ourselves. We ordered an entre to share and a meal each, even though one would have fed us and any children we might have in the future for breakfast, lunch and dinner! It was amazing. We started with some melted provolone cheese, sundried tomatos and basil. It went down swiftly and was followed by both rib-eye and bife de chorizo cuts of steak. The steak was cooked to perfection and came with an accoutrement of delicious sauces and side dishes. There was literally no room on the table for anything else.
After all that you'd think that dessert would be a no-no! It was hard to resist and I thought for the first time in my life I might go without any. But the waiter smoothly talked us into sharing the lemon sorbet, drizzled with champagne. Look out for this dish on the Robilliard-Jeffries table when we get back next year....
