Wowwwww, Singapore is so cool. Its so clean and modern, the strict law enforcement here really does pay off. No littering, spitting, dropping fags or chewing gum, or you get a right ass kicking. England should take some notes from them!!!
Anyway enough of my ranting, we loved Singapore. It took us a while to get to our accomodation, the Lazy Corner Backpackers Hostel (our first hostel so far as Singapore is alot more pricey). This was Kates first time in a hostel and boy did our 4 room companions initiate her haha. There was old weird people, farters, snorers. I even had to wake up to the sight of an old Chinese lady, with only her knickers on downstairs. It will stay with me forever hahaha!!!! Such a deep red colour, they were!! Anyway im sure we're freaking you all out a little so I will leave it there.
Once settled we instantly checked out what Singapore had to offer. We walked to Clarke Quay, where all the restaurants and bars are on the river, alot like we imagine sydney to be like. However we could afford rinks there as the price of alcohol here is extortionate!! But it was nice to have a noisey round. Then we headed to the theatre on the bay, again on the river. We thought we might be able to check out what shows they had on but because it was Chinese New Year they had alot of festival types performances on in the outside arena (for free). SO luckily we go there just in time to watch a set by three musicians. The lady was playing an eastern style instrument whish is usually just played on its own. It had strings like a guitar but looked completely crazy. Anyway they mixed this instrument with some Western beats, using a keyboard and a guy playing the drums but using bongo's instead. These guys were actually really awesome, especially the keyboard player. But it was really interesting to hear a different ype of music like that. The instruments worked really well together. The views of all the lit up sky skrapers around the theatre on the river was also amazing, just what we imagined Singapore to look like.
The next day we hit the famous Singapore Zoo, which everyone had raved to us about. We are so glad we went!! It was the best zoo we had ever been to (the sister zoo of Steve Irwins). There was so much to see, and most the animals weren't caged, as it was a type of open plan zoo to let them roam about. Obviously there were barriers and things to stop them getting to us but it was clear that every animal was well looked after and enjoyed being there, which was great to see. We saw seal shows, lion feeding, White Tiger Feeding, Polar Bear feeding and even watched a snake masacre a dead mouse from start to finish. It was probably the grossest thing we have seen.
We especially liked the two polar bears, they were the best animals!!!! We sat and watched them for about an hour an a half swimming under water where we could view them from the glass screen underwater. They were seriously hardcore but so cute. we got a video of them so you will just have to see for yourself when we put it on if we ever get time.
Anyway as it was our last night, we decided to bite the bullet and go to Raffles, the founder of the famous Singapore Sling. Kate had to talk me into it as I knew how much these drinks cost at the Long Bar. The total bill for two drinks came to 54 Singapore Dollars which is about 25 pound (I know, crazyyyy!!!). But to be fair they tasted awesome and we made them last and abused the monkey nuts on our table. Its funny as the bar has monkey nut shells everywhere all over the floor. At first I was discusted at how messy the floor was when we were paying that sort of money, but its what your meant to do. You just chuck them on the floor once you have eaten them and they suck them all up at the end of each night, hilarious!!. Kate looked gorgeous, and fitted right in with all the rich business men making multi millionaire deals over a few slings, but me on the other hand, looked like a scrat haha, in my trainers!!! Thats all I had bought though, but nevermind. To be fair I cried myself to sleep that night about how much it cost but it was well worth it, a real experience of the upper class life over here. We just wished we could have afforded to eat at the restaurant, it looked amazing!!!!!
On our last day we did a bit more site seeing around our local area, hitting Merlion park and some of the world war 2 memorials, but hit the cinema to watch "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" to get one last deal in before we hit the underground for the airport. Our time in SOuth East Asia has been so fun and memorable and one day we will be returning to complete Laos and Vietnam as well, as we have heard Laos is Beautiful also!!!
