Hi Everyone :)
Just finished a great 2 days at the small stretch of beach at Mui Ne. We arrived from Ho Chi Minh City after a 5 hour bus journey, and walked for nearly an hour in blazing hot sun to the eastern (cheaper!) side of the beach.
We found a place which is attatched to the beach, complete with little bungalows and a hammock/ sunlounger resting area :) The beach is so empty compared to Sihanoukville!, it was pretty much just us at one point on the beach, also it is much cleaner and I think a pretttier beach. There are amazing shells along the shore which I went sifting through along the shore. The waves are very choppy here, and Mui Ne is famous for its windsurfing and kitesurfing, which we would have loved to try- unfortunatley it costs $200 an hour!
That evening we went to the resturant next door, which looked like the food would be good and also cheap. I ordered caramelised pork with coconut juice, sounds nice but actually looked like dog food, it was just pieces of meat in gravy! Tom's sweet and sour squid looked better but apparantley they were a bit chewy. Bit of a rubish meal, but we then went next door to a chilled out bar called pogo which was a good find and we had some tasty pudding to make up for the meal :)
Also forgot to mention we were narrowly missed by a falling coconut from a huge palm tree!, It smashed to the ground about 5 m in fron of us- pretty scary! I now avoid walking by the palm trees...
The next day we had a early morning beach walk and then headed to Pogos for $1 breakfasts! Basically we spent most of the day on the beach, swimming and reading :) Also made a giant mermaid sculpture with loads of shells and sand. A great lunch ( again at Pogos!) of giant fresh spring rolls filled with pork, egg and salad, with some morning glory fried with garlic was very tasty.
We hired 2 moto drivers to take us to the famous local red sandunes, so that we could do some sandboarding and then see the sunset, so at 5 we head off with our 2 rather crazy drivers, but got there ok. The dunes were HUGE!, and the sand was swirling everywhere- and got everywhere, in eyes and mouth as well. We hired a board off some local kids and had a go sliding down the dunes- but it was almost impossible to slide down at all! Fun to try though :) We walked away from the hoards of other tourists to the further sand dunes which were more untouched and really quiet :) The sunset was nice but unfortunalty the sky was a little cloudy still for the perfect sunset... Spent the next half hour running and falling down the dunes!
That evening we went back to Pogos for a great meal and some pool :), then to pack for an early morning bus to Da Lat- a place in the mountains where it may almost be as cold as England!
Thats all for now :)
