From Queenstown, we drove south to Te Anau which is where we based ourselves to visit Milford Sound. It took around two hours to drive to the Sound from Te Anau so we left quite early to make our cruise which was booked for 12 noon. The drive to the Sound through the Fiordland National park was so nice. (There were a few points of interest along the way which we did on the way back. Our tour was with a company called Red Boat Tours who were good but nothing special! The cruise lasted about an hour and 3\4 and i think the amount of tourists may have spoilt it a little!!! The Sound was really really pretty but there were loads of other boats out at the same time and we were on a boat full of Japanese tourists. Lovely as there are, they are a nightmare when there is a picture to be taken!!! We went down the south side of the Sound, right up to the Tasman Sea and back again the same way, passing right under a waterfall which was pretty cool.
After the boat tour we drove back to Te Anau, stopping on the way to have a look at scenic look-outs and things such like. Milford wasn't mind-blowing but it was extremely pretty and worth the trip, minus the sand flies!!!
