After breaking our backs for a month and a half strwaberry we are finally back on the road being tourists. We left Maroochydore and headed north to rainbow beach for our Fraser Island trip.
we got up bright and early had a pancake breakfast and the headed out to pack up our four wheel drive for the weekend. Everything got loaded up onto the roof of the truck and then 11 of us clambered in and off we went. As soon as we got off the barge at the island we had barely been driving for 5 minutes before we got stuck in the sand we all piled out and had to push. This was to happen plenty more times over the weekend.
We headed straight up to the beach and made our way to Lake Mckenzie. The lake was brilliant blue the sand was white it was paradise we spent all afternoon there lazing in the sun and swimming. we then headed further up the beacxh and set up camp . We were right in the wilderness no toilets or anything it was great. We cooked ourselves what was supposed to be a steak dinner but wasnt that great then settled down for the night to play some drinking games out came the goon (australian slang for a cheap box of wine). Throughout the night there were dingos everywhere one of the guys in our group slept outside and woke up to find himself surrounded by 5 of them.
After a quick brekky we headed up to indian heads and the champagne pools. Along thje way we saw dolphins and humpback whales more dingos. After an hours walk up the beach we arrived at the champagne pools and spent the day in the sun again its a hard life.
We headed back to camp as it was getting dark and it then took us an extra half hour driving up and down the beach trying to find where our tents were.
The following day we went to eli creek and then we had to head back to the hostel. we were all very smelly covered in sand and in need of a good shower especially kate.
We then had a day at rainbow beach waiting for our night bus to cairnswhich takes 24hrs and another week back in our own tent.
Love andy and Kate
