We travelled from Pilua Pangkor to Georgetown with Neil. Made our way back to Lumut on the mainland and got a coach to Butterworth. In stark contrast to the bus to Pangkor, the air con was so good Kat had to get her jumper out! It was raining agian, but as we were travlling it wasn't a great issue.
From Butterworth we took a ferry to Georgetown. In our true English style we took seats under the only leaky part of the roof! Once we got Georgetown we made our way to the backpacker area of Chinatown, and to a road called Love Lane,,, ahhhh yeah!
Found a great room for 4 of us with air con. Friends of Kat's dad, Ian and Pam who live on Penang came to take us all for dinner. We drive to the beach on the north of the island at Batu Feringghi and had a few drinks at a beach bar before going for dinner. We ate like royalty! The food was so good, and more than a welcome change to Chicken and rice!
After a long lie in, mainly to digest the food, the three of decided to go for a walk aound Georgetown and take in some of the sites and history. We have a map with walks and attactions on it so we went for the Colonial heritage walk, mainly as it looked easy, and it marked out the English colonial sites in the town. The museum was really interesting, not only because of the Colonial aspest of the city, but also as it showed all of the different faiths and religions that co-exist here and there importance to the city. After visiting Fort Corwallis, which was the original landing place of Captain Francis Light in 1786, Kat and Claire decided to rest their feet and get a trishaw back to the hostel.
We went to Little India for dinner and ate curry off a banana leaf. We made sure to eat with our right hand only to avoid being laughed at as the left hand is used after going to the loo.. We find tissue is a better alternative.. Anyway, curry was really nice!
More travelling tomorrow to get to Ko Lipe in Thailand. Bus at 5.00am!!!!!
