Bit of a long blog due to having lack of internet in Fiji!!!
Well after having an amazing time in Hawaii were we visited Pearl Harbor, swam with huge sea turtles, visited some of the best beaches in the world at the North Shore and partied most nights with some of the best people we’ve met during our travels Fiji seemed the best place to relax totally for 3 weeks!
We arrived on the Monday having left Hawaii on the Sunday morning, we sort of time travelled over the time line, bit mad but what better place to be tired than Fiji! We got a taxi from the airport to our first place which was the Skylodge in Nadi which is on the mainland. We stayed there for 3 nights and it was nothing like a hostel more like a 3 or 4 star hotel with a nice pool and restaurant.
On the Thursday we were picked up around 7 ish to embark on a 2 week island hopping trip of the Yasawa Islands among many more. We headed to Octopus Island firstly and were greeted by a Fijian band singin as we got off the boat!! This place has the best food ever and is a totally cool place to chill out with loads of hammocks dotted around the beach to laze all day!!!
The following day we relaxed by the pool all day and soaked up the sun and then watched it set with a nice cocktail on the beach. In the evening we sat around the pool after dinner whilst the Fijians sang and performed for us....it was really good!
The next morning we jumped onto the boat to catch our next island, this was to be White Sandy Beach, it was a lot more basic than Octopus but had a few cool people staying there which sort of helped make it a slight bit better, the food was rubbish too, felt like we were at war with the rations we were being served haha!
After 2 days in White Sandy Beach we headed north to spend a night at Coral View, this was a lot better, plus we had loads more food wooo!! The only bad thing was that the heavens opened and it rained most of the day so I decided to throw myself into all the activities like Baseball, Volleyball and Rugby whilst Bec chilled out and read her book.
The next day we set off for Oarsman’s Bay Resort which was just a short boat ride away, but yet again it was lashing it down with rain haha, for the first night we spent it in a nice beach hut then for the second we were in the dorm. This place was really nice the Fijians all took time to say ‘Hello’ and we met a good gang from the U.K and Oz.
For our final stint we decided to go to a island called Kuata, this was probably the best island out of the lot! The scenery was amazing, the film Castaway was filmed there also! So we decided to stay here for 4 nights....whilst we were here we took a trip to one of the local Fijian villages which made you think just how basic these people live, but they all seemed happy, I even played football with a lemon of all things with a few of the kids!
It seemed right to end the island hopping trip in Kuata, I think both of us were beached out haha so we headed back to Nadi on the mainland to stay at a hostel called the Nadi Bay resort. We arrived around 6, dropped the bags off in the room and then went in search of food, just as we walked in the restaurant we spotted Alex and Matt who we travelled about/partied/played 3D mini glow in the dark golf in Hawaii!! We’d arranged to meet up with them at some point but it was great seeing them again!
That night we all had some good food apart from me, I was sick all night and the following day after getting food poisining from some dodgy pizza.....I some how made it out to celebrate Bec’s birthday which was cool, I was on the water while everyone else was lugging down the cocktails. On the day of her birthday I decided to buy her some beauty treatments in the on site salon which she said were amazing, but apart from me being in my sick bed till around 6 in the evening she had a amazing day!!
We arrived in the very cold Auckland in New Zealand yesterday, the biggest weather shock in the world having spent the last few months over 30 degrees straight down to 7 if we’re lucky!!! So we’ve invested in some warmer clothes and a coat each, there’s meant to be a huge storm heading here over the weekend so we’ll let you all know how it goes haha!
Ciao for now
Karl & Bec
