friday was our initial day of our water project in a small town called panimakaq, which is about and hour and a half drive from comalapa. we left really early and it was raining as usual! the drive was fun, we all rode in the back of the truck with two of our dogs. we drove through the mountains and we saw a beautiful waterfall in the distance. the community leaders greeted us and we began our adventure! we hiking the whole morning up unitl 1 when we had a wonderful lunch. this was the most extreme hiking that i have ever done in my life!! thank goodness i borrowed some rain boots because it was a muddy dirt mess but so much fun!! we even crossed the river 4 times, boots and all!! it was impossible to keep your feet dry. we initially hiked to a water tank that the community members want to use. the spring produced a lot of water and we measured how much water was produced per minute. we had a gps with us and we were able to mark all of our spots along our hike for future reference. we followed the existing water line through the mountains, while the community leaders cut a trail for us in the distance. the hike was very challenging and we went up and down in elevation the entire time!! all in all it was a great adventure and a great work out! i took lots of pictures that i will put up later. we will be going back to the community to do more mapping and we will be doing health surveys as well. i miss you all and thank you for the wonderful messages. love always. kari
