Karen's Travels
Hi everyone
All the days here seem to run together so that we often ask each other the question 'What day is it today?' I have to make sure I remember it's Sunday - and today's activities have been a celebration of God's creation, specifically that part of it which lies beneath the ocean - I've been snorkelling! The psalms which speak of the creatures of the deep have truly been brought alive for me today. When you don your snorkelling equipment and put your head beneath the water, it's like entering another world - an awesome, mysterious world where, if you watch and wait long enough, wonderful things appear before your very eyes! The coral itself, in all its weird manifestations, is amazing to behold. Fish of all varieties - lots of small black and white striped ones; shoals of very small luminous blue ones; larger fish - some emerald green, some black. The best bit is when you are surrounded by a large shoal of fish - they swim right before your face and you want to reach out and touch them. Some people saw black tipped reef sharks off of Shark Island.
Our trip took us round the island, stopping in small coves where we disembarked for snorkelling - I was surprised how quickly I got the hang of it. We were served with fresh pineapple mid morning, followed by a rice lunch with banana. In the afternoon we moored at Nang Yuan island for two hours; climbed to the island's pinnacle for great views (pics to follow). A wonderful day on 'Turtle Island' (didn't see any turtles though!). In and out of the water all day - lots of sun and fresh air. Great. Love to everyone.
