Karen's Travels
Hello everyone
It is 9.10pm in Tokyo and I am using a very strange Japanese keyboard so forgive any errors! We are now 9 hours ahead of you, which means you are probably all thinking about tucking into your Sunday lunches right now! I was up at 5am this morning and a bus transferred us to Hong Kong airport where our plane was delayed due to engine problems - which didn't inspire confidence! It was pouring with rain and our take-off was a bit hairy, with some turbulence along the way. The flight was about 4 hours. On arrival we had to catch an express train as the airport is 60km away from the centre of Tokyo. This took 1 hour 15 minutes. Tokyo trains are immaculately clean and the seats are padded with a kind of velvet covering - can you imagine that surviving in London? Not a scrap of litter, graffiti or damage anywhere. From there we transferred onto a tube train for two stops, then searched for our hostel in the rain. We have a triple room here for two nights; only a short time to explore this city, as we fly to San Francisco on Tuesday afternoon. I think the plan is to buy a one-day travel card for the tube and see as many sights as we can in a day. We must be on the outskirts of the city because there are no signs here of the skyscrapers you can see in the picture. Jane and Heidi are about to jump on a tube and see what they can discover tonight, but I'm too exhausted and need some sleep! Tomorrow is another day!
