January 1st
Today we had a quiet day and a bit of a lie in. We walked the full length of the Walk of Fame to get to the monument at the end. We wrote out postcards, looked in souvenir shops. We had dinner in an Italian restaurant on a balcony in the Hollywood and Highland shopping centre which was nice but when we got up at the end of the meal I had a trapped nerve in my back so I had to limp back to the hostel. We took some pictures of the Hollywood Boulevard at night.

Today we saved money by getting the normal buses around instead of the hop on hop off tourist bus. The public transport in LA is good although the locals don't think so! The first bus we got on was wrong but we managed to rescue the situation without much bother! We got the bus to the sunset strip where there are supposedly lots of famous bars and clubs but we didn't really see much. At the end of the strip (bordering Beverly Hills) we found one of the famous Beverly Hills signs and took touristy photos! We caught another bus which took us deeper into Beverly Hills. We got off and walked though some of the residential streets and had a nosey at the big posh houses and palmed tree lined roads. It's not as impressive as one might expect. We saw the famous Beverly Hills hotel. We then got to the 'golden triangle' of shopping. RODEO DRIVE BABY! We had a 'Pretty Women' (the film) moment walking along Rodeo Drive feeling inadequate! From there we caught a bus to the Beverly centre (big shopping centre). We only just got there as the stop before ours the bus had technical difficulties and everyone had to get off! From there we went to the 'farmers market' - another shopping complex. It had a HUGE Christmas tree. Back at the hostel we sorted out the stuff for Fiji. For dinner we went to a restaurant called 'Musso & Frank's grill'. It's supposedly one of the oldest restaurants in Hollywood. I had a delicious healthy meat and two veg style dinner! Yay! We went back and did washing and packing.

A very long day!!! We had to check out by ten then they put our bags in storage. We sorted out loose ends like the walk of fame stars we wanted to get our photos with, souvenir and present shopping, last postcards and parcel posting. We had lunch in 'Johnny Rockets' (nice burgers). We wnt to the Hollywood Wax Museum. It wasn't as good as Ripley's. We had our picture taken with a man who looked like Rambo!! I tried to get a picture with George Peppard's star for Catherine and David but he seemed to always surrounded by tramps! How funny. I think the cereal box would be an improvement! (sorry, Vic and Bob joke!). We had lots of time to waste before our shuttle to the airport so we had a big cup of tea and lazed around in a coffee shop! On the way back to the hostel we popped back to the Chinese Theatre as it was a lot quieter than when we'd been there before and took more photos. When we were walking back one of the street performers dressed as a horror character jumped out at me from behind a wall! He made me jumped so much I screamed and everyone was laughing as me! Hehe! We got the supershuttle bus to the airport from our hostel. The flight was all on time and check-in was smooth. We were on a 747-400 plane (big). We were in the front row of our section so had good leg room. Our flight left at 22.30. I watched the film 'The Nanny Diaries' on the plane. It was quite a rough flight.
