lots has happened in the last month, i ve got a geology job which is cool. i work on an iron ore exploration site about an hour out of karratha which is quite far up in western australia. its a pretty good deal, i work 2 or 3 weeks on, then i get 1 week off, so im flying in and out of perth lots and the best bit is that i dont need to stay in scummy hostel dorms anymore, yay! its tough as well though, it gets stupidly hot there (50degrees is the hottest i ve seen it) and we work 12 hour days which means getting up at stupid oclock when its still dark! on the plus side, all the accomodation, travel and food is included, so all i spend up there is a bit of beer money.
the jobs gotten even better in the last week because we had to be evacuated because 2 cyclones were heading towards our camp. luckily they changed direction at the last minute and both hit port headland, 1 on thursday and 1 on monday. the first 1 (george) was the worst and a few people on a mining camp that wasnt evacuated died. our place is fine though and we are heading back up to camp tomorrow. its been a brilliant week off because i ve been getting paid even though i ve just been sleeping, shopping and drinking! and my company has been putting us up in fancy accomodation because we couldnt get into any hostels or cheap hotels at such short notice. the best so far is the apartment in scarbourgh that we are in at the mo, its 3 bedrooms with a proper kitchen (thats luxury for us!!) and a big balcony that overlooks the beach. much better than living in the city even though taxis are a pain, but the first thing i did this morning, was jump in the sea to wake up, so im definately not complaining!
anyway, back to work tomorrow......
