......Expect the Unexpected
Left Penang island by ferry to return to Butterworth to catch the overnight train....arrived at the station with an hour to spare - no panic - only to find the train had been cancelled because of floods somewhere presumably in South Thailand, and no information when another train would be (or what day) - but don't worry we could have our money back! - so when the going gets tough!!!! Karina marches into the station office to get official proof - Andrew gets mobile out to call Mimi TumTins office - jump in a taxi to take us back onto the island via the causeway - and within less than 3 hours we are on a flight to Bangkok - it took us longer to get from the arrival lounge than it did from Malaysia to Thailand! Went to the hotel we had booked for the night after hoping they would have a reservation but unfortunately they were full - managed to get the taxi driver to hang on though and he found us a fairly good hotel not far away. Spent today in the centre of Bangkok visiting yet more Golden Palaces reclining Buddhas etc and a 6 storey Hi Tech centre which A loved and K freaked out. Took a Long Tailed boat down the river and an even faster tuk tuk to get us to a station when we were completely lost. K still hasn't got the handle of the money yet - she offered the driver 20p for a 15 minute drive through the city centre. A is writing this blog as it's 10pm - K is swimming in the pool and we have to be up at 4am for a flight to Hanoi. Knowing our luck it will be cancelled and we will have to get a train instead! Oh well - let's see what tomorrow brings.......
