Happiness Is The Road
Jay had woken up in the night with indigestion and had bad stomach pains. By morning the pain had not lessened so we decided to stay put at Whatuwhiwhi and have a chill out day. By mid morning though Jay's stomach pains were getting worse. With indigestion pains never having lasted this long before we thought it best to go to the hospital and get Jay checked out. The nearest hospital was at Kaitaia about 40 kilometres away and I drove there with Jay clutching her poorly stomach. Once there Jay was seen straight away and the staff that saw her were wonderful with Dr John in particular being brilliant. She was diagnosed with a bad case of acid reflux and given some minty liquid medication to take to soothe and calm things down. With Jay feeling a little better we headed back to the camp site where Jay downed some more minty stuff. Unfortunately though the minty stuff,, although soothing the acid and the pain made Jay feel quite sick. She spent the next few hours creosoting make shift sick bags with peppermint puke! (pronounced Pu-keh in Maori). We went to bed with Jay's stomach still hurting. We both awoke in the middle of the night bursting for a pee and thankfully Jay's pain had completely gone, around 24 hours since it had started. We trotted over to the amenities with Jay feeling very relieved both before and after. When I came out of the amenities block Missy the big black cat clocked me and came ambling over meowing. When Jay came out she saw me looking down and her eyes followed mine in amazement to see Missy brushing up against my legs. She was very happy to see us both and started to follow us back to the camper van, desperate it would appear to get into bed with us!
Puke (Pu-keh) means hill in Maori. Jay had climbed a big hill today but got over to the other side and all is now well. No need for anybody to worry.
