Happiness Is The Road
It had been a wet and windy night but we awoke to see some blue sky. Just before 8am we wandered over to the reception so we could help feed the animals. With the wind chill from the breeze that was still blowing it was a fairly nippy start to the day. We were followed to reception by the hens who clucked their way behind us and we could hear the cute little lambs baaing away in excitement as they sensed that breakfast was on it's way. Just before 8, the owner Gary, appeared and went to grab the milk and the feed. We were the only people there for the feeding which was great. The hens very excitedly followed Gary into the shed and started dunking their heads into the milk bucket and drinking it. They came out with white heads! As we approached the animal enclosure we could see the lambs going absolutely bonkers. They were mad with excitement. First of all Dave put a trough full of milk out for the calfs who greedily lapped it up. Then he handed us two bottles of milk each with there being one for each lamb. We pushed the teated bottles through the fence and the lambs went frantic. They latched onto each bottle and guzzled the milk until it was all gone. It was a wonderful opportunity to feed the lambs and so much fun. After this I fed pellets to the gorgeous alpacas. They greedily ate the food from the bowl I held out to them. They were very keen to eat the food but not at all keen to be stroked. As soon as I put my hand up to stroke them they were off and giving me a disconcerting look. It was great though to be able to get up so close to their hilarious mops of hair and marvel at their furry ugg boots! Whilst I was doing this Jay was stroking George the goat and he was loving it. I swear that he had a smile on his face! She was stroking his face and he was becoming more and more relaxed all the time. It was like hypnosis and he was definitely going under her spell as she continued to stroke his cheeky goat cheeks. She could get this goat to do anything now. He was soft as can be and putty in her hands. Jay is the goat whisperer! Once feeding time was over we retreated to the camper van and had a chill out day. It rained for most of the day, the wind was blustery and it was pretty damn cold. We enjoyed being all snugged up and cosy in our little metal home.
