SORRY LAUREN!
It's been a month since we got to Ireland and time is FLYING by. I have a hard time believing I'm actually here still; walking along the river lee into town to go to the Garda station I was convinced that one day I'd just magically wake up in charta3 and Lauren would be sitting there laughing at me like HA HA as if.
Yet here I am, still in Ireland. I'm legal now, have my student visa and I'm allowed to stay until September (the third I believe.) Classes are becoming natural, my linear algebra teacher is still horrible and definitely not Irish, but its okay. The walk to the city (about a half hour) is no longer that big of a deal and the walk to campus (about twenty minutes) is nothing anymore.
Last Friday Cara and I ventured down to the Lough, a lake full of birds. It was a little creepy, we walked through an entire mob of ducks and geese and scary birds, but I'm still alive. The lake was absolutely beautiful.
Saturday we went to Blarney Castle. The trip was about 20 minutes on the bus, a whole 6euro round-trip. Killer, right? The castle and grounds were absolutely amazing. We hiked all the way up the 100 steps to the top of the castle where yes, I DID kiss the dirty old Blarney Stone and spent 10euro on a cheesy certificate of my receiving the gift of eloquence and a photo. We spent the entire day roaming around the grounds, watching Cara climb trees and rocks (and anything else possible to climb.) There were caves and dungeons and it was just an amazing time. By the time we got home, we couldn't walk.
Sunday was a pretty lazy day for me; got up, went to church, hung around campus library for a while, went for a run and pretty much just hung out in the apartment waiting for my roommates to come back.
The weather has been extremely nice until today. All weekend it was sunny and warm, and even today it wasn't too cold but it was rainy. What else can we expect, right? I'm pretty sure it was around 48F today though, not bad since what I hear is that its freezing at home.
Tomorrow night we're doing the Unofficial Cork City Student Pub Crawl (Yes, quite the mouthful.) Not sure what it is but apparently it should be plenty of fun!
No traveling planned anytime in the near future. Some friends from home are coming at the end of the month, so I'm sure we'll be going to a few place (including Dublin for the last weekend they're here)
My Irish language class is going good! Basic conversation skills:
Dia Dhuit? Conas ata tu? Cad is anim duit? Conas ata an aimsir? Slan!
And I know some random words, can answer those questions, count from 0-10, etc. Its a hard language, but it's pretty neat.
I'm missing everyone at home, but I do LOVE it here. Its been hard keeping in touch since my internet hasn't been working in my room, but it's finally back up and running and already a few video chats in, so bring it on!
Slan!
