Greetings from Paris, France !
We were picked up from our hostel early this morning by our Topdeck leader, Scott. Introduction went like this,
"Hi guys ! How are you this morning ! I'm your tour leader and my name is Scott as some of you already know. Scott from Scotland ! Just to confuse you a little more, our tour driver who is waiting for us in Paris is called Scott too. You can call him Scottie though."
I like my Topdeck leader already.
So we crossed the English Channel by ferry, met Scottie properly, then had a city lights tour of the Paris sights and sounds. Went up Montmartre hill to the Sacré-Cœur Basilica and to be honest, we actually skipped up 3 flights of stairs before we realised that there were about 10 flights more to go. Looking at each other in shame, we finally admitted that we were unfit. There was the option of taking the lift too of course but y'know, pride .........
Anyway, the burning muscles and shortness of breath was so worth it. The basilica is located at the summit of the hill which is also the highest point in the city. Gave us an incredible, incredible view.
We then carried on with our tour (driving, not walking/climbing, thankfully) and saw the Moulin Rouge cabaret amongst many other places - the most significant one being the Eiffel Tower. I saw it from quite a distance away and at first I was just like, 'Mmm, okay' but then it lit up and I was in awe. It was a short 5-minutes light show but the sparkling and dazzling lights took my breath away. They say the French are very proud people and they have every reason to be so with the Eiffel Tower, really. I'm still buzzing with excitement now.
Okay bye for now. We're gonna have our dinner (French food !) at a quaint little restaurant near our hotel now. Will update again when I can !
