You know you are on holiday when you loose track of the days & we keep trying to work it out! It's taken until today for us oldies to adjust to the time difference.
Thursday we went to a small village Vevey nearby for a wander & gathered it was a public holiday as seemed to be some sort of celebration happening. Very sweet village, did lots of walking & saw Charlie Chaplains statue which is in the photos.
Yesterday we went to Chateau de Chillon from the 1200s. The food they consumed for banquets back then was amazing. Fairly cruisey day yesterday as a little weary! A little drizzle & we are so lucky the day we arrived was so clear to see the tops of the mountains as clouds covering some tips of the mountains since.
Today we took the train way up into the mountains to Gruyere. The home of the cheese. Looked through the cheese factory & had some tastes. We had lunch at a Swiss restaurant which resulted in a cholesterol hit to last a year! The waitress said yes she spoke English, which turned out to be as good as my French (not very good). I had a large bowl of bread loaded up with melted cheese & bread on the side to dip in!
We headed up the mountain (well it seemed like a mountain) walking past the cows with their bells on, to another castle. Great views from up there. Met a French elderly lady on the way who asked (in French) if we spoke French. We replied no & asked if she spoke English to which she replied no, then continued to talk in French for 5 mins. We recognized 1 word - magnifique!
We have had lots of moments like that & many laughs.
Off to France tomorrow, (we hope) as apparently the trains in France are on strike. No surprises there, our last trip it was the airlines. This area of Switzerland is very French & very different to where we have been previously in Switzerland.
