Travelled from Nice by plane to Munich yesterday with a tight schedule to then train to Salzburg ready to meet the caretaker at our accomodation at a pre arranged time. Only one suitcase arrived at Munich airport! Yes pays not to brag how lucky we have been on previous holidays! Anyway it arrived at midnight here in Salzburg after a trip via Frankfurt which was a relief.
We had a couple of beautiful weather days in Nice & arrived to a warm evening here in Salzburg yesterday. We saw some beautiful snow covered mountains & villages on our train trip yesterday.
Today has been very cool & some drizzle this pm. A wander around the old town this morning revealed a beautiful town with such style & grace. I love it & despite the weather we are so glad we came here.
Lunch was a German sausage in a roll with mustard eaten standing at a stall, in true german style. A great thing to do on a cold day! Followed by a coffee standing at another cafe bar! The Austrians are into standing apparently.
We did a Sound of Music Tour this afternoon. Tacky-yes, however a warm bus, a drive in the beautiful countryside made up for the tongue in cheek tour! My childhood fantasies have been shattered as much of the movie was not the true story & most of the places we were taken to today were not the location of the true story. No more tours for us here!
The day ended with a pleasant walk through the old town & up the hill to the gorgeous Austrian apartment we have. An evening meal at the Beer Hall across the road which was worth it for the atmosphere with all the locals & the hall itself which has great architecture. Unfortunately we didn't have the camera tonight. There is a vintage car race around the streets tomorrow as it is a public holiday here, so John is looking forward to that.

Susie Freeman That brings back memories of our sound of music tour in 1987!
Liz Donoghue Wow, what a wonderful surprise to see Mary & the children out & about. Sounds like Denmark was a great choice as a last minute change if itinerary. Pity to have all the stress of having to change flights etc. Dinner & orchestra in Vienna would have been wonderful. Paul wants to know, are the cakes in Austria as good as France? Sounds like coffee certainly is. Enjoy Denmark. I hope you the sun stays out. Love Liz & Paul xxx
