Sapato Falls and Canaima Park!! This morning we were up at 5am ready for our boat ride back to Caniama Park. It was still dark so we gathered our things and made our way to the boat. It was a little chilly on the boat and it wasn't long before we hit rapids and we were all covered in water. As there had been rain overnight the water level was quite a bit higher and the rapids a bit more ferocious. Going down rapids took just as much technical skill as going up them and the boat driver did a remarkable job with only 4-5 huge splashes covering us all in water. When the rapids got too aggressive we once again landed on an island and we walked around whilst the driver taxkled the rapids on his own. We expected the journey to not take so long but it still took 3 long hours and as we were cold and wet and without breakfast yet we all climbed out of the boat quite exhausted. The final walk back to camp was nice with a stop ontop of a small waterfall where we could get some photos. When we arrived at camp we were all ravenously hungry and ready for a coffee - the camp was a little disorganized and we had to wait another 30-45 minutes but we finally got some coffee and breakfast. Breakfast was quite good with an arepa, fried egg and a mountain of cheese. We had to wait for Christian to get back from airport so he could tell us the plan for the rest of the day. In the morning I went for a walk around the village and collected some mango before heading to the beach. Lunch was served at 1pm and after asking 4 times they finally removed all the rice from my lunch and gave me some more meat which was really nice. At 2pm we all (including the 11 Japanese) headed down the beach and took a boat over to the other side of the lagoon; passing 2 spectacular waterfalls in the process. Today we had another guide and he was fantastic - given us a complete rundown on what was happening, interesting facts along with a genuine friendliness about him. After about a 30 minute walk through the Forrest we arrived at this beautiful lake on the opposite side of the Lagoona and this had the waterfall known as Zapato feeding it. We were given some time to go for a swim so we all jumped in and made the most of it and fortunately the water wasn't too cold. The Japanese once again had some crazy ideas and we started launching one another up in the air, having handstand competitions and burying this poor girl in the sand - one thing I have noticed with the Japanese is they are always having fun, like little kids finding joy in everything; I want to be more like this so this draws me even more towards Japan as an upcoming travel destination. Next we headed up to Zapato falls and amazingly we were able to walk behind the fall - quite an adrenaline rush and at one point we actually walked through the fall - covering us in a cold shower of fresh rainwater. After a bunch of photos and admiring being so close to the sheer presence of such a powerful act of nature we walked up to the top of the falls and had an exceptional panoramic view of the surrounding savannah, Tepuis and rivers. The puri puri were ferocious up here and after 30 minutes we were all ready to head back to the boat. The boat ride took us past the face of two other falls and then back to the beach where we had started. What a day and the excursion to the falls was spectacular almost as spectacular as Angel Falls themselfs. We all waited around for dinner which tonight for me was a little rough with boiled bananas, potatoes and two spoon fulls of Bolognase. The poor Japanese were so hungry they brought out all their snacks and started on them during dinner. After chatting a while with some of my new friends I decided to go and lie down and do some research on Central America. Later I headed out to the dining area and my Japanese friends were still up drinking whiskey so I joined them for a drink before calling it a night.
