Up early today and unfortunately no sleep again lastnight due to Dan Mosquitos and the extreme heat.
Today Macy are off on a roadtrip to two places: Kokop and the most Southern tip of mainland Asia. About an hour and a half drive and we will be staying in Kokop the small Chinese village to celebrate Chinese New Year.
First thing we went and picked up some fruit and snacks and then made our way out to our first stop Taman Negara.
Taman Negara is the southern tip of mainland Asia and is predominantly a huge mangrove that the local council has built a massive array of jettys over. The great thing is you can walk above the mangrove seeing all the wonderful wildlife and then out into the sea that crosses over to Indonesia.
I saw many monkeys, crabs, lizards, rays and birds and was very exciting as I havnt ever been so up close and personal with a mangrove before. It was like being deep in the jungle but not getting your feet wet - a wonderful suprise Macy had treated me to.
Next we headed to Kukup and on the way picked up a Taiwanese guy who needed a lift - a perfect hitchhiker as I could ask places to visit for my April visit to Taiwan.
We found a nice little hotel in the centre of town and then went for lunch - baby fried squid. I am worried I am eating too good a food and soon I will be back to tins of tuna and canned peas but hey will make the most of it whilst I can.
Later in the day we went for a walk along the vast network of jetties over the mangroves of which all the towns people live. Basically they live on stilted houses over the mangroves and consist of all Chinese families and because today is the beginning of Chinese New Year celebrations all the families were together eating, laughing, setting off fire crackers, singing karaoke a very nice vibe with all smiles and sweet sweet aromas. Today has been another magical day and I fall more in love each moment with Malaysia. To celebrate Chinese New Year we went and ate a plate of the local king prawns and wow these prawns are the size of small Maron a good 10-15cm long easily double the size of the ones at home. They were lightly dusted in egg, butter and flour (fried) and came with fried egg pieces on a bed of lettuce. To say these were the best prawns I have ever eaten is an understatement, they melted in your mouth and cooked so well you could eat the shell and all of which I did. To wash it down fresh watermelon juice and then to help with the digestion another nice walk around the jetty watching the Chinese families celebrating together and setting of the fireworks and crackers. It was quite a sight to see crazy old drunk Chinese men almost blowing their hands off lighting these dam firecrackers.
It's days like these I realize my blessings and appreciate every thing and everyone that comes into my life.
