Gone Fishing!! Today is Saturday and I was hoping for a bit of a sleep-in but unfortunately Nico's son was up at 6am with the TV blaring right next to my head. We were supposed to be off fishing early but first Nico had to go to the market to buy a few things. Whilst Nico was out; Teetoun and I prepared the fishing gear and waited for Nico to return. By 11am we were finally all loaded up and ready for our fishing adventure. Nico had told me There are absolutely bucket loads of fish in French Guiana and big fish to boot. We arrived at the beach just outside of the city centre and made our way out to the rocks where there were about 15 other people fishing. Just as we arrived a few guys were landing some big fish - promising sign. After walking around the rocks we found a nice spot and started setting up. The water is very murky here due to the Amazon leaching into the ocean but this is good for the fish as it keeps the food in the water moving. It was so peaceful sitting on the rocks, looking out at the watery horizon and thinking of home. We waited and waited and finally I got a bite and brought in the first fish which unfortunately was a crap fish we could not keep. We continued fishing for the next two hours with no luck, switching from the common shrimp as bait to fresh fish both of which didn't seem to appeal to the fish. After packing up we all agreed it was time for a swim and my God the water was magnificent and the absolute best way to cool off after a hard days fishing. Nico cooked up a tasty lunch of king prawns and spinach in coconut milk when we returned to the house and we even cracked a bottle of French red wine to celebrate a good day. The afternoon we spent going through Nicos garden where he showed me all the various fruits and vegetables hd is growing. I was feeling like I hadn't done much so I went for a walk to the supermarket just so I could get out of the house for a while. There is music events happening all around the city tonight as its the annual day of music but after an early start and a long day I decided to stay in tonight and watch a film.i have 100s of mosquito bites and unfortunately Nicos house is full of these little critters so most of the night I spent swatting these little critters whilst sweating profusely and doing my best not to scratch all my bites.
