The Village
So after my adventures in Kenya I came back and stayed mainly at in my village and at my project, other than the few sneaky visits to Kampala for birthdays and things!
My school couldnt be any better! I'm really enjoying myself. The teachers are amazing and the kids are even better. We have started to go to teacher Rachels house every Tuesday because she makes the best food ever. Last week she taught us how to make some ugandan foods: chapatis, gnut sauce, greens and irish potatoes. It is all pretty damn fine! We have attempted to go some of the things she has taught us at our own house and they turned out awesome. Another teacher, Esther, kept on asking us to go and visit her church in Lugazi so we did. Turns out that it is pentecostal church. It was actually really funny! It lasted three hours but it didn't feel that long. It was like watching a show! All the singing and dancing it was just so much fun. I think if churches were like that at home everyone would go, it was like a big religious party!
Kawolo C/U Primary School is a government funded school. Government funded schools have a reputation of not really caring about their jobs or the children they teach. However at this school I don't feel that is the case. An 'always' representative came to talk to the girls in P5-7 and one of the teachers came around the classes with 'sweets' which were actually de-worming tablets, one was given to each child. All of the teachers really do look after the children. They have also introduced school 'families'. My family consists of 30children from p1-7 and every friday after assembly we talk to our 'familes' about any issues which affect everyone. We are thought of as the 'mothers' and the children can come to us with any problems that they have. I love how the school involve us with everything they do.
Apart from school we have just stayed in and around our compound. Molly taught me how to light the charcoal stove so that when she leaves I won't starve! I'm a total expert on handwashing clothes and last week we did the crazy task of washing our bed sheets. That was awful. But now I have a clean bed. The rats have been having parties recently. Falling in bins, taking Mollys leggins from her shelf to under the bed without us noticing and they have taken to living in our roof. Great. Also, it is rainy season - at night it sounds like the roof is going to blow off! And i havent seen the real colour of my feet in weeks becasue of the mud.
We are now on easter holidays! This last week has been pretty boring - as soon as the children have finished their exams they just don't come to school. The exams went alright, room for improventment though!
So now it is time for travels again! I'm starting in Jinja and then...I'm not sure. I'll keep you posted!
Nice Time!
