So, my month at Juno Hall Backpackers, and my stint as a 'Juno Slave', has finally come to an end. Enjoyable as it has been ,i am ready to depart here and head south for more exploration and some true backpacking travel.
Waitomo is a small village consiting of not a lot more than at least 7 cave companies with whom to eplore the underground. I have been lucky enough to undergo 4 of these exciting trips (for free!), and they are all good good fun. Exploring a cave wearing a wet suit and wellies, and abseiling into big holes in the ground on a 100 meter rope is an experience worth doing.
working in the hostel was good fun, yeah, cabin fever struck a few times, but at the end of the day, im quite content in the middle of nowhere with beautiful scenery wherever you look, and different people to meet and chat to every day.
a trip to the Tavern- Curlys Bar, is a must in Waitomo, and weve spent a few evenings there, taking advantage of the free bbq on christmas eve and the live band at new year. Theres always lots of friendly locals and cave guides to socialise with, and we've often got a small crowd of backpackers from the hostel to chat to too.
Have helped hand rear a red deer fawn, whose mother was shot, and also been on a pig hunt with dogs. that was an experience for sure.
anyway, the south is on the cards for tomorrow so will update you all soon.
