Cat & Ame's Discovery Tour
Helloooo!
Well well, our tour is drawing to an end. Last night we said goodbye to a few good new friends, who were leaving early this morning, but as it happens, most of us are staying on tonight as well, so we have ONE more chance to spend a few unforgettable moments with our group...sigh...sob...
Since we spoke to you last, not much has actually happened anymore as the last few days have been more of a wind-down after all the earlier highlights.
Sadly we left Caye Caulker which, at least on the surface, looks like paradise: white beach, beautiful sea, cool people and lots of seafood....aaahhh that was the life...
Unfortunately it's probably left best as a holiday place as it had its drawbacks too, would you believe it..
We came over to Playa del Carmen on the 7th afternoon, when it was Alex's (our guide) birthday. So we took him out for dinner and spoilt him all evening. I think we all had a fab time, considering most of us managed to see the sun-rise!
Following that, thursday was a very slow day, and we mostly just lounged around and had a look around Playa, which is the most touristy place we have seen, with lots of souvenir shops, drunken brits and expensive restaurants....uhmm...charm's somehow lacking, but a long white sand beach makes up for all else.
Unfortunately the weather's finally turned for the worst, and the days are no longer bright, whilst the rain is settling in on a daily basis. Seems to fit with the end of the fun!!!
Anyway on friday a few of us managed to book ourselves in for another dive, this time CENOTE dive, remember form my earlier email, cenote are caves, so we dived into caves, sometime keeping to areas where the light could penetrate, sometime where we could not see a thing so had torches. It was really cool, swimming amonst the stalagtites. Unique experience, if combined with the fact that Mexico holds the biggest underground river system in the world. 't was niiiiice...
We went out again last night as it was our last night, and had the most gorgeous paella! Yum.
Again, almost saw the sunrise :)
So that's about it. We are sorting out our bus ride to the airport, as tomorrow we're off to Cuba, where a massive storm is impending, and there are 35 degrees, so we may be too hot and scared to leave the hotel room....uhm... We'll see!
Just for the spider lovers (CHRIS!) in the last email i forgot to mention that during our hike in the jungle we did see a big red-bottomed tarantula, with all its little babies too! That was a spectacle. We carefully replaced the leaves over its hole though, before leaving. Don't think Mother Tarantula was too impressed with all these human eyes pointing at her!
In the cave we also saw a big black spider, i was watching my back all the way after that!!!
Take it easy my lovely people,
Laters,
C&A
