Easy relaxed start for a Sunday, didn't leave till 9.30. Walked through the town across the Eden by Frank's Bridge then started the 2 hour climb up to the Nine Standards. So lovely walking in the dry, got to the top in a howling, freezing wind so didn't want to hang around, but very impressive up there. Left at 8.35 this morning in rain which got heavier as we went along. Would have been a lovely walk in good weather, beautiful scenery and loads of wild flowers, but it was just something that we had to get through. Reached Orton after 3 hours like drowned rats, went into the Chocolate Factory and had hot chocolate and crumpets - felt a bit better! Still raining as we left Orton not really able to appreciate where we were as we had our heads down against the wind...

Left at 8.55 in slight rain, nothing like what had been forecast. Immediately started going uphill via Boardale Hause to Angle Tarn, stopped raining by here but got really misty thank goodness for Alan's GPS. Went past the Knott and then up to Kidsty Pike which is the highest point of the Coast to Coast at 2560 feet. 8.45 start, along the Stonethwaite Beck then following Greenup Gill valley gently up then steep climb all the way up to Greenup Edge. Very windy up on the top and continued to blow most of the way down the valley but the sun came out a bit. Started out from Ennerdale Bridge at 8.30 and walked along south side of Ennerdale Water, rough, narrow path but very pretty. Just as we got to end of the lake it started to rain, walked along path to the north of River Liza - very boring track but passed by Ennerdale Youth Hostel so called in for old times sake and had coffee and cake.
