Bicol's Paradise of the South: Subic and Tikling
Matnog Island, Philippines
The trip to the island is almost 4-5 hours of land and sea travels. It's really tiring but once you see the shore of Subic, you will just get stoked and get very excited to roll on its cream to brownish sand.
There are two beaches in Subic island: Subic Saday (small) amd Subic Dako (large). Our boatman suggested for us to stay in the small beach since the large one is already populated. Here is a view of the small beach's shore.
There are no water activities in the beach aside from jet skiing so all you can do is to swim, swim and swim. You can also do snorkeling if you have snorkeling goggles. For sporty travelers, you can bring your volleyball, frisbee or your surfboard.
My cousins, brother and I is a group of adventurous dudes so we opted sleeping in this pop tents instead of renting a room. The tent rent costs 100php overnight and can already accommodate 2-3 persons. It's good though if you bring your tents.
Going back to the mainland, we were able to do island hopping and saw different rock formations nearby. There were also hidden caves in the island. The sea was so rough that time so we were not able to stay closer to the rock formations.
Part of our itinerary before we went back to Matnog was to visit the fish sanctuary near the island. There are no entrance fees to the sanctuary, but if you want to feed the fish you there fish feeds for sale at 30php.
Last stop of our south beach adventure was the Tikling Island. Before it was the most popular island in the place. Part of the island is a private property already, but travelers can still on the island overnight in tents and do bonfire.
The water in Tikling island is more crystal clear than in Subic Saday The texture of the sand is almost the same, fine cream to brown. There are also trees in the island where you can set up a hammock and relax.
It was my first adventure trip with my cousins and my brother. From the public transpo ride, to figuring out how we will survive with our junk foods and limited money, adventure indeed! Too bad we were not complete that time.
