So we got to Koh Phangan from Cambodia after a very long and stressful journey, Ann and Bob went in a tuk tuk to the southern bus station in Bangkok whilst Caz, Sarah, Bob's luggage and I went in a taxi. We thought we would arrive first but 20 mins later when they still weren't there the panic had set in! I went to information to try and find out if they could have gone somewhere else, I checked we were definitely in the right place and we were. Turns out there are TWO southern bus terminals, one old and one new, we were at the new one, Bob and Ann realised this so got a taxi to us and then we all had to get a taxi back to the old one as that was the only place we could get a bus from that night. Bob took his luggage with him this time!! We got on a night bus to Surat Thani and waited for a songthaew to take us to the pier to catch a boat to Koh Phangan. We had to brush our teeth at the side of the road and I ate a mini box of coco pops for breakfast by pouring milk into the plastic bag it comes in and fishing them out with a spoon! Interesting way to do it....
I was knackered on the ferry over and really just wanted my bed. When we arrived at the pier we were touted by a guy who said he had a room with two double beds for 600B. Under 10 pounds which is good. It was in the north of the island which meant a 40 minute taxi ride to the full moon party but that was fine by us, Bob already had accomodation so Sarah, Ann, Caz and I headed to 'Lucky resort'. When we got there they showed us the room which only had ONE double bed in it, I told the guy what we had been offered and he said they didn't have that available, amazingly as the tout actually phoned ahead to make sure we could get that room. In the end we got one amazing air con room with a HUGE double bed, hot shower and even carpet! And one basic hut with cold shower and a fan. The A/C room was 500b and the hut only 200b so Caz and I went in their the first night. The second night Caz, Sarah and I were going to go into the A/C room as Ann had accomodation booked elsewhere, however she ended up coming back as her accomodation wasn't as good as where we were. So that night Sarah and I were in the A/C room and Caz and Ann in the other.
We all got ready for the full moon party and headed to Haad Rin beach in a taxi along with a lovely couple we had met, he was Aussie and her English but they met in Oz while she was travelling, she has since moved to Oz with him and has a really strong Aussie accent! They were lovely so the 6 of us headed through the town to the beach once we were dropped off in the taxi. There were hammered people everywhere already and it was clear that this was going to be a crazy night. I bought a pot of pink paint and a paint brush and proceeded to give myself a tattoo on my arm 'IF LOST PLEASE RETURN TO LUCKY RESORT', before too long we all had paint on us! The UV lights made us glow, I also bought glow sticks and plastic jewellery that glowed so everyone would see me coming, or so I thought, until I saw the other 10,000 party goers who looked the same! Some went to loads of effort and were painted in head to toe or had fancy dress costumes on. Everyone was really friendly, (alot of people were off their faces on some drug or other but Vodka redbull was enough for me!)
At the beginning we decided to have a plan of action, sticking together and arranging a meeting place in case we got lost, that soon fizzled out and we lost Ann and the Aussies so it was Sarah, Caz and I partying with all our 'new full moon friends'. I was hammered after a few vodka redbulls and that's where the night gets a bit hazy. I was kindly escorted home at about 3:30am (what a lightweight! I never even saw the sun come up on the beach!) But I'm glad I stopped drinking when I did! :o) My Thai became fluent after that much voddie so I was happily chatting away to the locals, saying who knows what!? haha.
The next morning, Sarah still hadn't come home, we were quite worried but not too much. By the evening when she still wasn't back we were more so! Eventually at 2am she came strolling in.. She'd been 'partying' with a thai guy and having too much fun to come home! The next day we all recovered and shared stories from what we remembered. Everyone had some injury or other, I actually got electricuted TWICE whilst standing at a bar! There was a string of flashing lights, you know the xmas style ones inside a see-through plastic tube, well, they were lying on the ground and I had to stand on them to get served, putting one foot on them was fine but putting two made me feel like a vibrator! I literally shook all over whilst electricity was passing through me! I jumped off the lights, but then wasn't sure if it was them doing it so stood back on them again to see, and yes, yes it was them! Later on someone was swinging the lights around over their heads, I was waiting to see who else would get electrocuted! Ann fell down concrete steps so had scrapes and bruises and a nice bump on her head but one guy in our resort fell off his bike and managed to cut open his whole face, he had bandages on his forehead, nose, chin and arms and legs, he could hardly walk! The full moon party is definitely full on!!
The day after the day after the full moon party :o) we went to the beach with Scott and Emma (the Aussie couple) and chilled out. Until Scott met some guys who were having a bit of a party so he said he would 'bring his Sheila's over' too. I started having one cocktail but before I knew it it was 6am and Ann and I were walking the 30 minute journey back to our resort as the taxis don't start until 6:30am, no amount of my drunken begging would convince them to pick us up!
The next day Sarah had a boat booked to Bangkok so the rest of us decided to head to Koh Tao. Bearing in mind that I got to bed at 7am after ALOT of drinking, the 12:30pm ferry was probably not the best idea ever! :o/ I threw up the sandwich I had had for breakfast and then proceeded to throw up for the majority of the 2 hour journey, the sea was incredibly rough and I would say about 1/4 of the people on the boat were throwing up! Not good!
We made it Koh Tao though and I wasn't sick again until we got to our room and didn't threw up after that until I had eaten my dinner!? :o/
