So before going to Chicago I was expecting it to be freezing! So my friend was like 'u should totally take my jacket and my scarf' as its going to be unbelievably cold and windy.
I get to Chicago and it's not even as cold as I imagined. I mean don't get me wrong it was cold and all, but not chilling to the bone type cold.
It's also helpful to have a friend who lives there and has a car to take you around. :)
I did everything that I had wanted to do while I was there for only two days.
Day one I went to the burton store to buy a snowboarding bag and ak 2L jacket and a few thermals and also went to the Michael Kors store to get my phone case/cards.
Also that day whilst shopping I stumbled across this clothing store called All Saints Spitalfield and it was amazing. Not just the clothes but the design of the store. It has a very rustic look with exposed brick and stamped signs, also there was a whole wall filled with old sewing machines. Definitely something that we need back home.
We also need Anthropologie in Sydney. I bought the cutest dress and belts there. Love it! Definitely the style I like!
At lunch had the infamous deep dish pizza. It was literally 2cm deep and very very greasy. Felt like the biggest fatty afterwards. And the cokes you get there are literally a litre and a half. I was so shocked at the sizes.
Day two I went to see the bean which was really cool, the Jordan statue which turned out to be smaller than I imagined. It was in the 'projects' of Chicago which is meant to be pretty ghetto but it really didn't seem that bad when I got there. Also got to ice skate outdoors which was really nice. Also got a jumper that says 'I love Chicago' thanks to Christian.
Gonna get a 'i love NYC' t-shirt when I head back to NYC as well.
All in all, Chicago is a pretty cool place, of I could sum it up, I would say its a mix between Vancouver/auburn. A little rough around the edges, a lot of character, a lot of space (you can't get anywhere without a car pretty much), with remnants of Chicago the musical. Lol. Weirdest explanation ever!
So now I'm in DC and it a drastic difference.
The public transport is really easy to get around the metro, they have Capitol bikeshare and everything is pretty walkable.
It's unbelievably CLEAN. I would say cleaner than sydney. The people seem nicer and more helpful and the food isn't as greasy or fatty. Don't get me wrong, you can still get the real heavy stuff but it's not as common.
They have well known things like cupcakes, falafels apparently and really good gourmet burgers which I haven't tried yet seeing as I just got in today.
I'll update tomorrow seeing as there is wifi at the hostels.
Must say, hostels rock. Ok the sleeping arrangement isn't too great but there's free wifi and so many other helpful things that hotels don't have as well as meeting new people.
Hostels are definitely a winner in my books.
