An early morning start for the long day ahead, 740km to Mitchell and hopefully a dip in the mineral springs when we arrived.....did not eventuate. Due to a long brekkie stop in Toowoomba, we were behind schedule and did not arrive in Mitchell untill after the baths were closed. We soon cheered up after a few drinks at the local pub and a baked dinner which left Vinnie looking for more!
We aimed to be at the baths for an early morning dip and soon thawed out in the 38C water, bliss! We had another big day ahead so picked up the pace to 105km/hr but were still passed by road trains!
Travelling at dusk was something we tried to avoid but due to the long day and late start we were all eyes on the road as we travelled to Winton in the dark. We had missed the Caravan Park meal so the owner very kindly drove us in the bus to the local pub where we sampled a great meal and a few well earned drinks. We walked back to the park past the butcher which Vinnie declared we had to visit the next morning.
After a good night's sleep in a cabin we picked up a few supplies and headed for the Diamantina, some 420km ahead, 260 of which was on dirt. We were looking forward to a few quiet days in the bush.
