Dubai. Here we come!
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
The lights of Dubai came into view as the Boeing 787 Dreamliner gently dropped down towards the runway, on time after a 6 hour 50 minute flight from Heathrow. We queued for what seemed an eternity at passport control with an amazing diversity of other nationalities. Only 9 % of the people who work and live in Dubai are actually native Emiraties, an amazing statistic, and English is the main language ( which is very handy ).
After a welcome cup of coffee to wake us up we found our way to the taxi rank and were driven swiftly to our friends villa situated at The Lakes area on the outskirts of the city.
After a couple of hours shut-eye we were ready to face the day.
We headed into the Marina area - a mixture of Chicago skyscrapers and Monaco style - to meet friends. It was a balmy evening as we headed to The Observatory restaurant on the 52nd floor of the Hotel. The view is stunning and the food is excellent. I can recommend it. A great first day. Only 91 more days to go!
