well, after a brief stint in delhi after a final and monstrous train ride from mumbai, we flew to Leh, in ladakh. its more a tibetan town full of refugees from tibet, but also the traditional ladakhis. they dress like tibetans and have snow boots and funny hats and shawls. very cool. literally. it was -20 at night and -5 during the day, so …

Hi. Thanks for visiting my travel blog. Well not long now until Paul and I head off for a massive 4 month trip! We'll cover most of India during this time (time and energy permitting ofcourse). I'll be stopping briefly in Dubai, then meet Paul in Delhi on 8 Nov. And so the adventure begins.... enjoy.

Laurie Anne I have bought 2 of these blankets 8 years ago and they are my favorite ones. So soft and cozy, I didnt know it was not 100% wool, is it true? Still I am looking to buy more for my childrens! No blankets beats them, thin and very warm!

melinda phillips Yes, I agree with Pradeep. They are sold in the markets as 100% Yak wool but it is virtually impossible to dye Yak wool as it won't hold the bright color dyes! They are indeed acrylic with a small percentage of sheep wool. They are not from Nepal either but made in India and sent to Nepal for resale. Still, they ARE beautiful and they ARE cosy. I have worn one as a shawl for 5 years in Nepal and now it is a reading blanket on my sofa.

Pradeep maheshwari I am sorry to be a spoil-sport but these are not wool shawls at all. They are made from acrylic fibre. Mostly made in large quantities in factories but also by hand. The natural yak fibre cannot be so colorful or soft.

alma OMG you did not really spend 24 hours in a rickshaw to Palolem did you? saw the wee video clip riding the rickshaw and it looks mega bumpy. Your tea chests have arrived safely. All ok here. Looking forward to seeing you both again. Mum.

Mum & Dad Hi Julia & Paul, I reckon you were wise starting up north before hitting the touristy areas of Varkala and Allepy ect which sound expensive but more comfortable. Maybe you can take me there in a couple of years he he. All fairly well here at home. P. starting school next week. Apparently has a male teacher. Mum Hi my lovely, Just got back from Raro and been catching up with the latest places you and Paul have been to. Gosh, you guys really are getting around and although some places and habits sound totally disgusting(the pooing on the beaches etc), other villages seem charming with friendly locals and good food. I reckon its so good that you did this trip now and not when you are older and used to the comforts of home(like hot showers,decent transport and a cosy bed) The MAF inspection fee has been paid. Your 3 boxes will be delivered next week. All sorted. Love and miss you, Mum.

Hilary Jules, Happy new year to you! How funny that you saw turkeys and managed to get a photo of them too! Now all we need is a picture of you eating a doughnut and I will have full house on the picture front! Amy Julia - the trip sounds amazing keep the blogs coming!
