Hello! We have internet in our hostel that we are at so can finally update. We are meant to be camping here but got a cheap upgrade to a room so treated ourselves after 4 nights of camping.
Day 1 - Got a crazy cab to Flamengo (the same crazy driver from the airport!) and met up with our group. Then Famoo arrived, our Kumuka truck for the first week which we all piled on with our luggage. 5 hour drive to our first stop of Paraty - after a wonderful winding drive along the brazilian coast (otherwise known as bumpy) Set up camp and headed for hostel down the road to have a few beers with our new friends! Unfortunately we were on cook duty the first night so had to attempt spag bol in the dark for 11 people... after a few giant beers. All successful though and everyone is still alive. Our self inflating sleep mats.. werent quite what they promised to be but we got a few hours sleep.
Day 2 - Free day, where we had breakfast and headed for the beach for an early morning kayak. The sun was shining and Mark was pretty disappointed that my technique was better than his and I beat him around an island and back to shore. Headed for the old town and had an explore. Managing to pick up a bit of Portuguese now to get us by with key words such as Toilet and Thankyou! Camping again.
Day 3 - Sun was hiding and we headed for a boat trip - along with another overland truck company toucan. We got on the boat and thought it was going to be awful as we were crammed on and it was a bit cold.. however as soon as we set sail, the caipirinhas (brazilian cocktail) was flowing and the sun came out to play. If you have a look at the photo of mark with some of the girls on our trip.. you can see he was having a terrible time! Ha ha. This mixed with lots of other girls in bikinis.
Day 4 - Got up at ridiculous oclock to pack up camp ready for our killer drive of 12 hours. This was only half of the journey to where we are now! After many games of top trumps, alphabetic game, magnetic draughs, wave at the locals and singing to our ipods we made it to our Bush camp. Now what we imagined for a bush camp was a nice green area where we could wander off to dig our hole for the toilet. However as it got late and dark we were greeted with a bit of gravel, on the side of a highway on a camp that resembled a rubbish dump. It was high altitude too so was freezing and cold.
Day 5 - Up at silly oclock again for our 12 hour journey, sustained by lots of junk food and sweets. Finally arrived where we are now which is lovely however lots of sand flies giving us a nibble. Everyone agreed to eat at the hostel instead of cooking again and after a morale boosting meal and beer, enjoyed our mattresses and a quiet night sleep.
Everyone again are happy chappies, so all is good.
Day 6 - So far today, had a helicopter flight over the falls which was great fun, if only it was longer. I got to sit in the front seat which made mark very jealous but oh well, ladies first and all that. Mark said I looked like someone out of top gun as the pilot resembled tom cruise. Visit to the bird park with 800 different species. Mark stroked a toucan and we both held a macaw. Chill out afternoon with mark by the pool soaking up some rays and myself having the exciting job of working on a computer as slow as if two hamsters were powering it.
Keep the emails and messages coming. Not sure when will be in contact again, as we are camping again after here and then have a long journey again to Salta.
