After a leisurely start to the day I headed into circular quay on a bus. I headed towards the water to get lost in the Rocks, the place where Sydney as we know it started.
I headed to the Rocks Discovery Museum, but got side tracked by Rockhounds. This gorgeous shop had the most amazing selection of opals I have ever seen! I purchased a very cute and colourful boulder opal from Queensland, using the money some family members had given me for my birthday, thanks guys. If I'm honest I have no idea what the stone will become, but there is plenty of time to think about that!
So, I had a mooch around the very well presented Rocks Discovery Museum but got a little irked by a lady of shorter stature than I but sporting a very wide brimmed hat, who always seemed to come and stand in front of me! Despite this I got a pretty good idea of the development of Sydney. I spent the following few hours aimlessly meandering through the streets and lanes of The Rocks. Unfortunately I feel as if I've reach the point if historical info saturation for this trip, or else I'm reading the same things over and over again. I enjoyed looking at the old buildings, again, thanks Mum and Dad for the training!
I started to get peckish so was on the look out for a good spot to eat. I ended up in the Museum of Contemporary Art (I know, it's not food!). Again, I feel as if I've seen my quota of contemporary art for 2014. There was one piece called sunrise which comprised two walls of brightly coloured block paint that I liked, that was it.
I was now in a low sugar daze and ended up strolling around the opera house. I eventually settled for a charcuterie platter at the Opera Bar which I am swishing down with a glass of Chardy.
Having refuelled I circumnavigated the Opera House, making the most if the clear blue sky backdrop for photos. Then into the Botanic gardens, having a snooze on a bench in the late afternoon sun. That's what holidays are for!
