Hi guys, so I´ve finally got round to adding my first blong entry. Sorry that Its taken so long. Boliva is fantastic but is also very much stuck in the 80´s. I´ve spoken to various barmen and taxi drivers and everyone seems very fond of Evo Moralez and hold very high hopes for his future. The elections are in December and he is expected to regain power. There is ´Pro - Evo' graffiti everywhere.
Right now we are in Rurranebake which is in the lowlands east of La Paz. The head is tremendous and sleeping without a ceiling fan on is almost impossible. We got back from Las Pampa´s yesterday. Where we did short trek along the wetlands and the Yacuma river. The biodiversity is incredible. The river was lined with crocodiles that would rush into the water as the boat crept by. Apparently they feel safest in the water. We also saw howley monkies, squirrel monkies, huge kingfishers, huge bats, and all sorts of birds that I do not know the name of (yet). We swam with pink river dolphins which was amazing. The river is full of Piranahs but apparently not where the dolphins swim. We caught a few Piranah and had them for dinner. Miesje had one bite a chunk out of her finger when she was taking the hook out.
We were in La Paz for quite a while a week ago. The altitude really does take its toll and a gentle stroll through the witches markets feels like a proper hike. I had a mild headached for 2 days but it disipated and did not return. The people here are so friendly despite being the poorest in Bolivia. We´re heading to Lake Titicaca tomorrow by plane because frankly we´re fed up of trundling along very uncomfortable dirt roads for 18 hours not being able to sleep and being forced to listen to Criolo Pop at full volume all night on awful speakers. Apparently it keeps the drivers awake... although the Coca leaves help too. Bolivians are very proud of Coca and it seems to be something of a miracle plant which props up the economy. Hope you´re all well. I´ll be updating this thing more frequently in Peru I think as the internet will be a) more widely available and b) faster.
Much love to all x
