Brisbane Tuesday 18 August 2009
Well, we made it back to Brisbane!
After a couple of hectic days in Seoul we made it to the airport on time and boarded our direct flight to Brisbane. Only one small patch of turbulence then we were touching down in Brisbane (with only 2 bumps) and Zoe and Mim's Adventure was over
Now to expand on those two days in Seoul: We had arrived in Seoul at 4.30 in the morning after a midnight flight from Ulaan Baatar. The bus ride to Hayley's place took 90 minutes so it was an opportunity to employ the Korean technique of sleeping on public transport - I had mastered it during our first 2 weeks in Korea.
I still felt pretty spacey as we swapped stories with Hayley and Cheryl (my sister who has been visiting with Hayley, her daughter). They had been on a trip to Beijing while we were in Mongolia.Hayley went off to work and the Cheryl, Zoe and I eventually ventured out to further explore the shopping opportunities of Seoul (also wanted to do some sightseeing but did not get much of that done).
That evening we met up with Hayley and went to an Outback Steakhouse for dinner. Menu included Kookaburra wings (chicken) and other gross concepts. It is an American franchise and there are restaurants all over Seoul.
We had a lovely walk along the stream that winds its way through Seoul before catching the subway home with all the other peak hour travelers at 10.30pm. We arrived back at Hayley's little apartment to have souvenir 'show and tell' before morphing into sardines for a much needed night's sleep (floor space in the apartment is little more than the size of Hayley's single mattress with a fold out single mattress next to it)
Our last day in Seoul dished up wind and driving rain so no more sightseeing for us beyond a lunch time expedition to Egg Yellow, a local shopping centre. Our departure was an exercise in logistics as we tried to keep our baggage dry while we hailed a taxi to take us to the bus that took us to the airport.
I have been trying to upload photos but nothing seems to be working. Only a few of the photos I tried to upload along the way worked and none of the ones I tried to upload from my own computer today worked. I will seek some guidance in the matter and if I can work it out you will have the opportunity to see some of the places we visited. So please watch for emails advising of updates and maybe there will actually be some updates.
