Woah-ok so whilst we have been in Torquay we basically didnt write any blog...oops! so now whilst we are currently in sydney we shall do a very quick and brief catch up of each day.....so here goes...brief....yeh.
Sat-13th-Dec- Packed up from Base Sydney and went to airport to fly to Melbourne where Ian (cousin) picked us up from Avalon airport with his mate Dylan....our backage in sydney had gained 5kg much to our dismay! From airport to torquays carols by candlelight which was inside due to rain...lovely and brilliant carols with a moderntwist on some. Mark dressed as santa and did a nice gig!woooo. Stayed up in evening and watched movies and chatted as usual.
Sun-14th-Dec- Breakfast at front beach cafe....lovely!Drove to Auntie Lyna dn Uncle Steves in evening for dinner...lvoely to see them!
Mon-15th-Dec- Surfing! wetsuits and boards with instructor Kev...both got standing! very salty :) cinema in evening to see australia again! just as good!
Tues-16th-Dec- Mark wakes us up with very loud music...highly unimpressed! get out of bed and yell!...alot!have to stay up but judith manages to sleep..lucky! lunch in Lourne on great coean road-lovely and then hot chocolate on way home in 'skinny legs' cafe! the best hot chocolate ever. watched oceans eleven before bed :)
Wed-17th-Dec- text from mum saying rob in car accident so up early again...took sleeping pill and slept till 2! woohooo! went to geelong and had coffee..brought marks xmas presents.
Thurs 18th Dec - Horseriding along the beach, something we had both always wanted to do. I hadn't been riding in so long but quickly remembered how much I loved it. Switched horses because mine had a funny head bob, then the second horse bolted off when he heard Til's horse come up behind me. Very scary. We stopped for another hot chocolate because they were just too good. In the evening was Til's Uncle Steve's work Christmas do, free food and drink wahey!
Fri 19th Dec - Nice day trip planned to 12 Apostles and we trusted Mark to know how long it would take us...we left at 12pm and stopped for lunch in Apollo Bay around 2pm, Mark saying it was only another half hour. We asked a waitress who said it would take another hour and a half..this would have been fine had we not had to be back for church at 6pm. Oh b*****. We couldn't have come all this way and not gone to see them..so it was a fleeting visit running to the view and back with a few snaps taken of the beautiful view. Church in the evening was brill, so different to All Saints' but lots of singing so we liked that.
Sat 20th Dec - Tilly and I joined Lisa's church youth group for a morning at the beach playing touch rugby and using paddle boards, lots of fun. The rest of the afternoon we prepared for Mark's party, cutting and slicing and dicing. I hadn't put suncream on during the day and had kept on burning so didn't realize until I got out the shower that I was as red as a beetroot! Yummy. Mark's party fun, nice meeting all their friends. Having discussed Wolf Creek we watched it in the evening, Til wasn't too impressed. It isn't the worst but you have to bare in mind it's real...
Sun 21st Dec - Day out in Melbourne. What a beautiful city, I think I prefered it to Sydney. First stop was the Vicky markets Til had been raving about, picked up lots of bargains, then to the casino where we had a go on some of the slots, then dinner on Lygone Street, a street simply jam packed of restuarants. We raced to southbank along the yarra river to watch the flames on top of these concrete blocks, we ate an ice-cream and watched massive billowing flames coming from the tops. Melbourne beautiful at night.
Mon 22nd Dec - Day trip to Sovereign Hill in Balarat, an old gold mining town where a museum town has been built to look exactly like it did back in the day. So dusty roads, old products to buy, and all the staff dressed up in late 1800 costumes. It was brilliant! We went panning for gold, and took a horse and cart ride around the town. Then went for a mining tour. When I got to the bottom it was almost pitch black and very tiny and I had my first claustrophobia panic attack, it was very strange but I ran up the stairs into the light as fast as I could. Home for one of Mark's new Top Gear dvds, god we love it.
Tues 23rd Dec - Til came up with the genious idea of going to work with Mark at 6.30AM so it was shed building surrounded by plenty of bullants, but good to see what Mark gets up to in his working day. Last minute late night Christmas shopping followed.
Weds 24th Dec - Christmas Eve and Mark's Birthday!! We hired some boards to practise our new surfing skills and enjoyed the morning on the beach. A little rocky and smaller boards so a little more difficult to stand. Til did well though. In place of All Saints' Nine Lessons and Carols we enjoyed Geelong's Carols by Candlelight where we sung carols with all the family, Til and I doing the descants when we could.
Thurs 25th Dec - Christmas day away from home for the first time but what a lovely day. Early rise for breakfast at Ian and Carlie's house, with most cooked on the barbie. Then home for presents and to Lisa's parents for Christmas lunch. It was strange, especially when sitting outside on the decking wearing sunglasses...but not uncomfortably strange. Home for more food and films.
Fri 26th Dec - Boxing day sales hurruh. They are HUUUUGE over here, and Til and I loved picking up some wicked bargains. Boxing day dinner at Lyn and Steve's with all the family again. Ryder is such a cutie! More food and more drink. After we nipped to Trent and Sarah's, two of Mark and Lisa's friends for drink food and films..it is a good part of Christmas after all :)
Sat 27th Dec - Woken early by Mark for beach and lunch by Wye River along Great Ocean Road with Ian and Carlie. Nice lunch overlooking the beach then onto the beach where the wind and picked up blowing sand everywhere and making it very very cold!! We ventured into the sea cautiously and my god it was bloody freezing!! Left earlish to make it back to see Wicked in Melbourne! One we had always wanted to see and it wasn't a disappointment. Nat can we steal the soundtrack from you thank you please? :)
Sun 28th Dec - Went for breakfast at Front Beach Cafe where I tried a Chai latte for the first time and boy was it scrummy. Then Lyn and Steve came round for the afternoon and we went to the cinema in the evening to see Bedtime Stories, very light hearted and great if you're an Adam Sandler fan.
Mon 29th Dec - Penultimate day in Torquay and we went fishing in St Leonards with Lyn and Steve. It was great fun - we hired a small tinney boat and went out into the ocean with our rods and handlines. The tide was quite strong and kept moving us out but in each spot we caught quite a few flathead fish. You can certainly feel the bite from the fish, and it was easy hooking them and reeling them in, it was though more difficult to take the hook off and get them into the bucket! The dude gutted the fish on the beach and we took them home for dinner yummo. We finished the day with a good ole ep of Midsummer Murders.
Tues 30th Dec - Last minute shopping in Geelong for Mark and Lisa's thank you present, man we had to come up with a ploy to get it past Mark without him noticing! Then was grocery shopping for our farewell meal of spag bol a la Tilly and Judith, then post office to send all our boxing day bargains and books home..we like shopping a little too much...In the evening all the family came over for our meal - we ended up with a VAT of bolognase because Mark had said he always doubles the recipe..possibly not best for an American recipe..then to bed ready for New Years..
