Monday 16th August - Cape Town to Franschhoek
Distance:325km
We started our trip by heading south along the famous Chapman's Peak Drive and then on to the Cape of Good Hope, the most south-westerly point of Africa. With beautiful peninsular roads winding along the coast, overhanging the Atlantic Ocean and offering spectacular views.
We then headed back north towards Cape Town, this time along the shores of False Bay with a visit to the penguin colony at Boulder's Beach. Passing through scenic Simon's Town and Fish Hoek before reaching the popular beach resort of Muizenberg. We continued to Gordon's Bay hugging the coastline stopping for lunch in a popular biker's bar in one of the many small coastal villages. After lunch we leave the ocean and start heading inland into the beautiful Cape Winelands.
The Cape Winelands have long been famous for producing some of the world's finest wines. Our first night was spent in the town of Franschhoek, home to the Huguenot Monument and by many believed to be situated in the most beautiful valley of the Winelands.
We arrived late afternoon giving us time to take in the stunning mountain views and the endless rows of grape vines.
Our hotel for the evening, The Victoria & Albert Hotel situated in the world's most famous harbour, offered spectacular views over the valley. Built in 1904 as the North Quay Warehouse and converted in 1990 to a luxury hotel. It is named in honour of the Queen Victoria and her son Prince Albert.
