Saturday 28th August - Divava to Namushasha
Distance: 260km
Today's drive along which is mostly along The Caprivi Strip - the wettest part of Namibia, and until the road was built, virtually impassable during the wet season. An unremarkable part of the country and a very straight road. The final 30kms are again off-road down to our accommodation - The Namushasha Country Lodge.A luxury bush lodge situated on the banks of the Kwando River amid lush tropical vegetation, overlooking a tranquil hippo pool, with sightings of over 300 different bird species. This lodge is an un-spoilt African experience with luxurious facilities in a very scenic setting.
In the afternoon we set sail on a swamp cruiser boat for a sunset cruise on the Kwando River. The Kwando River is a permanent flow of water, which nourishes a delicate ecosystem and sustains magnificent game, birds (between 300 to 400 species) and fish life. Along the Kwando River there are extensive floodplains, reed and papyrus beds and riverine forest. The River is the border between Eastern and Western Caprivi. The area west of the river is known as Bwabwata National Park.
