Our Good Friday started at 0545 with an undulating 2 and a half hour walk learning about more of the little stuff - we got great sightings of a young malachite kingfisher,(today's photo) bush buck, a rock fig ( a fig tree rooting itself and growing successfully in and around a rock) elephant tracks. Ionna found the walk a little strenuous so tomorrow's will be slightly flatter for her! She was compensated with a morning ride to breakfast in the trackers seat.
When we returned we did washing and relaxed in the sun on the deck - watching wildlife or snoozing. I had a quick dip in the pool and splashed around as it was more a dunking pool than a swimming pool!
On the evening drive we got to see - steinbok, South Africa's smallest antelope, warthogs, grey duiker, spider wasp ( anaethetising its prey but not while we watched taking it away), zebra, white back vultures and a tree squirrel. During the night part of the drive, Ionna was on the tracker chair and didn't take kindly when she was driven through spiders webs as she has an innate aversion to bugs - which does dissipate when her mind is occupied!
Enroute to supper we saw a porcupine run across the road, black back jackals and giraffe,.....during supper a whole herd of elephants plus babies came to drink at the waterhole infront of the lodge. On our return we had a fantastic few minutes listening to jackals calling and clarifying their territories to others.
Back at the lodge our turned down beds were awaiting us with a chocolate marshmallow egg on the pillow - yummy and our only egg this Easter!
